    Cane

Awhile back I posted a thread about a Lathe Bed Extension for my mini lathe, so I could turn a cane. I have arthiritis in my knees. I may have to have surgery in the near future.

I had a 2" square piece of Bocote left over from a guitar build about 32" long.
I had some pictures of turning it on the lathe but they have disapeared. I didn't have enough of the Bocote for the handle so I used a piece of Mahogany dyed it with black leather dye and several coats of shellac. I tied a Turks Head knot to seperate the handle from the shaft.

Fine looking cane and looks like it should hold up fine.

    The Bocote looks great.
    Well done.

Bummer about your knees, but if you're gonna use a cane, it might as well be a nice one like that.

Very nice looking cane, definitely a one of a kind personal item.
    Looks very stout.
Did you have a problem with it flexing while turning?

Didn't really have any problem with flexing, It's 1¼" at the bottom and 1¾" at the top. but I did use a steady rest just to be safe.
