Awhile back I posted a thread about a Lathe Bed Extension for my mini lathe, so I could turn a cane. I have arthiritis in my knees. I may have to have surgery in the near future.
I had a 2" square piece of Bocote left over from a guitar build about 32" long.
I had some pictures of turning it on the lathe but they have disapeared. I didn't have enough of the Bocote for the handle so I used a piece of Mahogany dyed it with black leather dye and several coats of shellac. I tied a Turks Head knot to seperate the handle from the shaft.

Good lookin cane Dan!!! Bocote is one of my favorite woods. I always enjoy seeing something good made using it.

Didn't really have any problem with flexing, It's 1¼" at the bottom and 1¾" at the top. but I did use a steady rest just to be safe. Originally Posted by Frank Fusco
