In case any of you have dirty iPhones and were considering cleaning them by leaving it your pants pocket while laundering the pants let me give you some advice.:wave:

Don't.:rofl::rofl:

I'm off to the AT&T store to see if I can replace it without breaking the bank.:(:(:thud:

Zackly why I only have a Motorola Tracfone in a little pouch on my belt. didn't cost much & nothing ever has happened to it. I am on my second battery & second pouch it takes a licking & keeps right on ticking.

Hope it turns out ok for you.

Rennie, my BIL lost his in a snow bank for 5 days...he put it in some rice I think :huh: to absorb some of the moisture and left it for a week. When he turned it on after that it worked fine...if you turned it on while it was wet, it's probably toast. :doh:

I've done that with car keys, money, pocket knives and lighters but never my cell phone. Thanks for the chuckle Rennie:rofl::rofl:

My grand daughter Abby did drop my cell phone in the commode a while back. So I just threw it away :eek::eek:

I dropped one of mine in also (noter to self never keep phone in shirt pocket).
It worked after that but I sure got crappy phone service after that.

Sorry for your mishap.

That is one reason I can not understand the need to have a phone like that. No offense Rennie. I just can't see the need to be tied in to the net all the time. I really don't want a phone that is smarter than me either. I have a IT-84 calculator that I hate, just as well.

Mine got dunked and was toast, tried everything recommended and still toast. So I upgraded from the 3GS to the iPhone 4, cost a lot but only about $12 more than just getting another 3GS :huh: :dunno:

I love my iPhone, but they are not good with water :(

Well, AT&T no longer carries the 3g 16, so I would have had to upgrade to the 4, at nearly $400!!!

Option 2 was to go to the apple store, get a new 3g 16 for $200. Headed in that direction, but had to stop at Verizon because Jan's contract is almost up. We were considering putting her on my plan. Well, long story short, I was able to get the 4 for the same price as the 3G from Apple plus putting me on her plan saved us $30 a month which means my buy out on my AT&T contract will break even in just over 3 months and the rest is savings. So, got the new 4 and paying less. Not too bad an ending.

Rennie,
not a bad ending indeed.

@Steve,
I sit here with my basic LG cell phone and iPod Touch sitting at arms length while I type. My wife has a basic phone, and of course our two older kids each have their own cellphones. One is just a text specialist phone, the other a full boogie android. I'm looking at upgrading once I finally move to VA, right now I'm paying $40 a month for basic service plus texting (kids respond to texts better than calls these days), but texting alone isn't enough to justify a smartphone.
I can see your point, and yet I also see the appeal of a smartphone. I'm probably going to wind up with an iPhone 4 sooner rather than later. I already use my iPod Touch which is pretty much the iPhone without calling ability. It allows me to Not have to get on the computer as much in the evenings, and yet I can still check email and do some light surfing when I want to, freeing up more time for family.

In the end ,being able to stay connected (there's even an app that allows me to surf and post here on FWW!) without needing to sit down at the computer in the evenings will probably have me on an iPhone by the end of the summer.

Sharon was a cell phone Luddite until she bought us a couple of androids about 2 weeks ago. She couldn't see any reason for al lthe 'stuff' they can do.

I'm not big into texting, but I do like having the ability to keep up on my work emails on the phone when I'm out and about. I can see that texting works if you have just a small piece of info to pass on, but if you are going to have a conversation, why not just dial the number?:rolleyes:

The calendar function is pretty useful as well, as it automatically syncs with my work calendar.

The GPS is really one of the killer apps on the phone, and it really works well.

Running forum runner was nice when I was on the trip as I was able to keep up with what was going on, even if I didn't post much.

I suspect that once you graduate and are working all over the country side, you'll find a smart phone pretty handy for managing your clients and finding them, etc...

Brent nailed it.
Texting is minor compared to the PDA functions. With my boys, getting them to talk on the phone is a chore... txting they respond to, since their friends all txt them Frequently. I've had to lay down the law to my eldest ,because he likes funky notification tones. Which is fine for the occasional event. One evening after about 10 minutes or so, it got to the point where I said put your phone on vibrate or turn it off if you're going to sit out with the family.
He did, but wasn't happy about it.

Steve, the GPS will be a huge help, as will being able to respond quickly to your clients. Think Office in your pocket, vs phone.

Rennie, I used to spend a lot of time wading in rivers. Dunked a few cameras and phones over the years. I have salvaged 1 phone because it was turned off. I pulled the battery and stuck it on the windowsill in the sun for a few days. Powered right back up.

I carry a waterproof and shock proof phone currently. It's Verizon's, Gzone Boulder, by Casio. Same phone carried by our state police.
