    Thanks for the write-up, Dave. Another one to flag in the browser.

    My "go-to" wood texture is from a photo of some figured maple I had. It's curly/quilted enough that you can't really tell the grain direction. For rough guess sketches, I use the same texture map and tweak the color tones to go from maple to cherry to walnut (with purpleheart thrown in the middle somewhere). Now that I know the rotating texture trick, perhaps I should get some better sample images to use for texture.
