That finish may not be acceptable, but it sure is perdy.

This is like a mystery story. I can hardly wait for the end---the "finish" so to speak.

    Thanks for the pics.

    Enjoy,

    Jim

I've been waiting to see this table.
I dream a lot. I do more painting when I'm not painting. It's in the subconscious.

    back at it again!!

with all the fun with oppressive heat, storms of the week, and that odd thing called work getting in the way, i've finally gotten back to the table again. the push is on now that time is short. i hope to have it all finished and assembled in the next few days. i did run into trouble when cutting the tenons. i thought i had the blade the right height, and soon discovered my error halfway through cutting the first tenon on the small stretchers. the others worked out ok though. i have gotten to the point of the first test assembly, and so far, so good, no surprises. just have to cut the arcs in the leaves and aprons, then the detail work. once that is done, it's on to the sanding and finishing.

    Looking good!

You gonna leave the top's edges square, or lighten them up a bit by chamferring the bottom? Just curious...

hi jim! this is just the center section of the drop leaf top. i just wanted to see what it would look like sitting on the base. the outer edges of the leave will be a gentle arc, with a one inch indent that parallels the edge. the aprons will get the same treatment, only they will be arcing upwards. at the time, i was too hot, too tired (after several hours in high 80's) to do more. tomorrow i'm routing the rule joints for the top parts, detailing the edges of the aprons and top, and making the new short stretcher. after that, i'll be in fat city, nothing left but sanding and finishing. i'm including pics of the details i've mentioned.

got a little bit more done today. most of the morning was taken up with church and a few other things. worked on it from roughly 5 until 9 tonight. sweating like the big dog... lol. got the new short stretcher done, the curves cut on the long and short aprons, and the shelf supports cut, with indents drilled using the bit for the last man and tic tac toe boards. i may curve the upper part of the supports, we'll see tomorrow.
