Made a deskset for a neighbor (graduation gift for his wife). Pen and nameplate base are of the same plank of walnut I found as a cutoff, and the paperclip closed form/w magnet is black walnut. Oiled em up, shellac and some general finish topcoat- arm r seal semi gloss -and they look pretty happy together.

Please don't hate me cuz Im too lazy to take better pictures. I promise I will on the next rotation of HF's coming up.

I like the way you left the magnet ring proud of the wood. It looks like it would help keep the paper clips from banging up the finish on the outside of the ring. (Something I've seen happen on some of mine with a flush magnet.)

Thanks everybody and yes, when she finishes the MSW I'll be more than happy to replace the nameplate. I doubt she will go PhD.. but who knows? :dunno:
