    experment

    This was a experment to see if i cold get his dye figured out. It's maple burl, dyed, and multi coats lacquar.It's aprox 3 3/4x 7. Finial is holly dyed black, yep tring to do a box finial again.

    Steve, is the finial an off center turning, or cut on a saw before turning? (am I at least close to the right answer?)

    Thanks all. i really didn't have any intention of keeping this when i started. As i said it was done just to see if i could figure this dye stuff out. Still not real sure of the form. might do a bigger piece and try some other colors.
    Jonathan i just turn the basic shape. With a coping saw, cut the cove on the top of the finial then hollow and sand. make the lidded finial separately.
