    Magnolia wood ?

One of the guys I buy freshly cut wood from called me today and said he has Pepperwood and Magnolia that he will be cutting early this next week. I have turned some pepper wood before and as i remember it turns well, is stable, had some brown in it but mostly a white ish colored wood.
Magnolia - I have never turned............anybody know anything about its color or how it looks ???

    Thanks Dan

It turns nicely. Smetimes there can be sone interesting grain patterns. Magnolia and Yellow Poplar are in the same family. I never have had any trouble with stability.

Magnolia has a LOT of sapwood and it is pretty bland, the heartwood is beautiful but most trees have little or no heartwood.

Thanks for the replys on the wood - I saw the Magnolia today and it is not very good (rotten spots thru the pith etc)...................So I let it go and bought some of the pepperwood which is fairly sound looking trunks - I got about 1/2 pickup load....................Thanks Dan
