Capn Eddie woodturning 101 Work holding

I did a little research on the Oneway site because from what Capt. Eddie said it sounded like the Talon chuck wouldn't fit a 1 1/4" spindle.

I will eventually buy a larger lathe & want to start out using my Talon chuck & later buy a Stronghold.

Here is what I found. Quoted from the Oneway web site.

"Spindle size (The ONEWAY and TALON will not fit spindles larger than 1-1/4" diameter) "

So this leads me to believe that with the proper adapter the Talon chuck will fit a 1 1/4: spindle.

Exactly.
They are recommending that the oneway and the talon be used on lathes with a swing of 16 inches or less and the stronghold for lathes of 16 inches or more. Also that the max spindle size you can use the oneway or the talon on is 1-1/4
What Capn Eddie was saying was that he has used the stronghold on small lathes for years and not had any trouble with bearings being worn out through the fault of the chuck. And that if you were planning on upgrading to a larger lathe then to make the investment in the stronghold and all you will need to purchase once you upgrade your lathe is the adapter not the whole chuck and all the accessories.

The following page on the Oneway website shows the adaptors available for the Oneway/Talon and the Stronghold:
I copied the text, removed the Stronghold entries, and reformatted things a bit for convenience:

Thanks for sharing Rich. :thumb:
A chuck is my next purchase for my fairly new, little Delta midi, 46-250. I'm still as confused as ever as to which to buy though. Just learning to turn pens and small stuff. Maybe bowls later on. Stronghold sounds like the way to go from watching the video, (depends on pricing).
