Too small Ken, that rattle is a choking hazard, sorry to say, but if you want to leave it that small, drill a hole through the whole thing so if the kid gets it stuck in their mouth, they can still breath.

I still have some apple wood left over from some rattles I made for my grandson. Never gave him any of the rattles as they either seemed to small or if large enough, seemed to have enough mass to knock himself out with it! So I have given up on that turning desire.
