Fixing a Chipped Lever Cap?

Can this old Stanley lever cap be salvaged by grinding down the chipped edge?

You could actually use it, just like it is, but building it up with weld, and grinding it back to its original length would be better.

As long as it holds the blade in place, that's all you really need, though.
 
Yes, but it won't look quite right.

Looks won't make much difference to me as long as it still functions correctly. ;)

Build it up with weld and then grind it back to shape...

Hadn't thought of that. I'd have to get a local shop to do it, since I don't have a welder (and would likely mess it up if I did).
