No Bob, the mdf core plywood was pretty loosely attached, there was no tension there, I'm pretty sure it was the wood contracting around the mirror.

The crack occurred at a weak point, where the wood grain is narrow. That can be avoided by joining multiple segments so the long grain is along the line of the curve.
An even stronger curve can be created using bentwood. Of course, I say that because I like to do bent laminations!

Bill, you're quite right. I was making this frame out of short pieces of scrap, and it would've taken several feet of material to do the bent lamination.
It has been a fun experiment, and I'm willing to chalk it up to experience. We'll see if the fix actually lasts. More fun this way, sort of.

Bummer...but I think I would of left it like that...could have some fun with folks when they walk by it, IE: "Hey, your 'insert choice' {head, rear, attitude, etc.}, is so big look what happened"
