If I'm unable to find suitable quarter sawn white pine would quarter sawn poplar be a good choice? I would like to keep it light weight if possible. I don't have a broad selection of lumber in my area but welcome suggestions. thanks, bob

Light weight.
Have you thought about soft maple?
More durable than poplar
