Hi folks, gotta catch up around here.

Haven't been around much lately. I love the new look! It's a long story that I don't want to get into too much detail here but I've been dealing with some pretty serious stuff for the past couple of months. Some of you may have seen a thread I started back in September about a health issue I was dealing with. After a routine physical, my doctor ordered an EMG to check out something that he noticed. The next day he told me that it looked like I had ALS. This absolutely terrified me. I found a neurologist that checked me out a couple days later and to my relief, he said that he didn't think that it was ALS. There's something going on that he didn't understand but he ran some more tests. Thankfully, a couple weeks later those test came back as normal. Unfortunately it looks like he can't rule out ALS so he sent me to a specialist. It took a month to get an appointment but I finally saw the specialist last Wednesday. (the day before Thanksgiving)

He spent an hour and a half with me and it sounds like he can't rule out ALS either. But there's something else he's checking for that's genetics related. He wants to redo the EMG and they took a bunch more blood for testing. This all took place on Wednesday. On Thanksgiving morning, I talked to my cousin and found out that one of my other cousins is in pretty rough shape and they're saying that it's a genetic disorder. He's five years older than me and it sounds like he's not doing well. From what I gather, his symptoms are a lot like mine. Right now I'm doing the best I can to deal with the situation but it's very difficult.

I just thought I'd let you all know what's been up and why I haven't been around here much lately. I really enjoy this place, but it's been hard to concentrate on ANYTHING but this situation lately. Just got a call from the hospital about and hour ago and they've scheduled the new EMG for two weeks from tomorrow. So the waiting continues. Maybe I should try to participate here a little more to keep my mind occupied instead of sitting around worrying. It does help to have diversions.

So if you've got any good mojo you could throw my way, it's immensely appreciated. I'll update you when they figure out what's going on.

    Take care

    John

    Thank you very much folks.

It has been a rough couple of months. I've been sick before, but it's rarely anything but a bout of flu or bad cold. I've had injuries to deal with, but those were cut and dried. No real diagnosis involved, just repair the damage and heal. This is the first time in my life I've ever had to deal with an unknown for such a length of time. And certainly I've never even come close to being diagnosed with something as frightening as this. I'm just taking it one day at a time and dealing with it the best way I can.

I appreciate the good thoughts and I'll update when they figure out what's going on.

    Take care all

    John
