Wood Chisel Storage

Steve,

I haven't built one of these yet, but I've seen variations on this theme as a hanging unit. This is from Wood Magazine.

I have a couple of ways. I keep most of my chisels in a wall mounted rack. This is about an arm's reach to the side of my bench. The rack design is from Chris Becksvoort's tool cabinet. Easy to make. Only bad thing is if you add or delete chisels, you have to redo it, if you're as OCD as me about having them in order.

Then I keep a set of chisels in a box, which comes out of a drawer and sits on the bench when in use. This is handy and portable, I like it a lot.

I have mine in tool rolls like mike says you can take em out and lay them on the bench that way.
I dont know which is better.

Just a point that with a tool roll i find myself more inclined to be using the correct chisel and spread my use of them across the sizes. If they gonna be in a draw or hanging cupboard then inmho that cupboard needs to be close to your work bench.
