Here is a coffee table that I just finished. The top started as a 24" wide red oak slab, It was cupped pretty badly so I decided to cut it down the middle to make it easier to flatten, I then replaced the saw kerf with a slice of walnut. I was hoping that the grain would match back up, but the 2 pieces didn't take the same number of planer passes on each side so the grain is a little off, oh well. This isn't my design, I found a few pics of a table and mostly copied those.
PS I don't know why these are upside down, they are not upside down on my computer, so if santa wants to turn it right side up go ahead.
Alright, I figured out that if I let v bulletin resize the pics it turned them upside down, but if I resized then it was correct.
