Santa slipped me a gift early yesterday. Walnut end grain, one-handed, no problem. Sweet.

Great little plane, Glenn. I've had one almost since they first came out, and it's one of the most-used planes I've got. I don't keep it in my apron (no pockets!) but it sits on a shelf just above the bench, always within reach.

Im lookin and lookin at the picture glenn posted and couldnt understand why it isnt just called a block plane.
So then Im thinking why is a special plane needed to make aprons?
I didnt understand that it was catagorized as an apron plane so one can keep it in their woodworking apron and it doesnt weigh alot.
gotta lot to learn about this woodworking stuff.
I own one veritas block plane, and I use it on almost everything I build.

Allen,
It could be called a block plane, but LV's block planes are about half again larger than the apron plane. It's a really handy size, though, and I use mine a lot. In fact, during my marathon sharpening session yesterday (12 planes and 7 chisels), it was the first one sharpened.
