I have a Box Joint Jig that I've used for several years for 3/8"x3/8" wide notches, I had to make some 3/8"x3/4" and when I went back to the 3/8"x3/8" I was getting tear-out because there was nothing behind the top of the cut after cutting the taller 3/4".

So I used a dovetail bit to cut a sliding dovetail slot and a piece that fits snugly in the slot so when I change the size of the box joints I can change the backer.

Very cool Dan. I like that you can use longer stock and just cut off the end as you change. I wonder if I could reverse engineer that into my crosscut sled for dados . . . . hmmmm?
