At least it has a return spring and a saw guard around the blade....





It must be safe...the article says so..." The saw guard makes it safe to operate,..."

That is just plain scary. Can't you just imagine the "Pull" that blade will exert on the woodworker. Control would just vanish.

Well, from the design, it looks like you push the blade into the work and the spring pulls it back outward. Yes, still scary, but probably easier than the alternative methods at the time and had at least a blade guard.

One of the lumber yards close to my LA house still uses an old swing saw similar to that. Scares me just looking at it.
