I built this box as a birthday present for my grandson who turns 17 next week. The walnut was from a tree planted by his great-great uncle in 1912. I harvested it in 1995, the year he was born.

Great looking box Dennisand the history behind the wood is pretty cool also
your grandson will treasure it and maybe pass on down to his grandchildren some day

Cool man! The story behind it is very cool, you should type that up on a card to leave in the box for future generations!
great stuff, I also think what tom said is a great idea.
Human Test Dummy
I now own the land on which my great uncle planted 8 walnuts and 5 black locust trees in what the county now claims as highway right of way. The county would have removed them; but I decided to do it myself and recover the wood. It turned out to be about 900 bd ft of walnut. I have used this wood only for gifts for family members and include the story with each gift. Thus far, I have used about 50 bd ft, so I have a lot more gifts to make.Originally Posted by Tom Becnel
