How do you folks attach a table top? Do you use the figure 8 fasteners or something else? Got a friend that wants a small end table and looking for ideas to attach the top.

I've used figure 8's, oversized holes through available under-structure, oversized holes through added cleats, shop made clips, etc. I have no preferred method necessarily. I use what works for a given construction. I lean towards K.I.S.S. on this sort of thing ;-)

I've used figure eights on a couple of projects; they work great. More recently, I've used pocket holes (since I finally got a jig last year!). I drill the pocket hole in the usual way, then elongate it a little to allow for expansion/contraction of the top.

as glenn said i have used many choices as well, and you can use buttons to steve, cut a groove and make the buttons out of wood.

z clips for me. I use my biscuit cutter to make the groove in the aprons.
