    Yep that sounds about like what I had. I vote to give it the skip based on my experience. The pieces are often shorter than they look also (look for end joins).

    The fasteners between the boards will be just nails in this case. Probably spiral on the outside couple and then straight nails on the inside (if its the same). The angle iron in the bottom probably has (about) 6 or 8 lag screws going up into the boards, not super hard to get out, but about 1 in 3 was really bent on the ones I worked on so it wasn't a cake walk.

    Basically you'd have to rip it all apart and re-glue it.. and thats assuming there isn't any rot (I pulled apart 3 10'x4' sections and ended up with about 8 boards long enough to be interesting and not overly rotten - that was after sitting out under a shed for 6+ years though so ymmv).

    from the sound of the condition, it would definitely be a Pass in my book.

    go find some maple and start from scratch, a lot less work in the long run.
