i tried out a couple of ideas with some scrap lumber that was under foot. all i can say is thank goodness for prototypes! with the flat one, i'm going to have to make it a bit thicker (at 3/4" now), and will have to drill the hole for the bottle neck at an angle a little closer to the vertical. i want the bottle neck to go in a bit more. right now, as you can see, it's almost right on the lip of the bottle. with the second one, i'm going to have to make it about 3/8" narrower on the inside, and move the dowel a full dowel's diameter (5/8") down, so that the bottle is a little bit more above the horizontal.
