I recently went to the shop a friend told me about and she had this table. She asked me what I'd give her for it and I said $200.00 and she said ok.

So I had no idea or any info on this table. When I started looking I found 1 of these that I could reference it too. The table is called a Spider table circa 1760's The legs are spooled. It is very frugal, I'm told not many exists. So what was the closest price tag I could put on this table after cleaned and waxed. Just take a little guess ?

That defiantly belonged to someone who had some money back in the 1760's. Looks English to me. Any clue as to who the maker was? It's amazing something that delicate could of lasted so long.
Can't wait to see it all cleaned up.
I wouldn't be surprised if you got what you think it's worth at auction :thumb:

Spooled , like tread on a spool. The bottom of the legs. They were either turned up feet like a small show or spooled.

Bob It's English, I been talking to my friend who's farm I hunt in Va. He has taken a job as a buyer / picker for Freeman' It will probable go there for auction if I can not sell it soon through my connections.

Question: anyone know what the red thing in the back ground is ?

 Nice Find

Hmm, looking for other variants I see closer to $670, are you sure you didn't add a zero? (google search "gateleg Spider table")

http://www.christies.com/lotfinder/...any-spider-gateleg-table-5353014-details.aspx - $625 vs estimate $1,500 - $2,500
http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/10191241 Estimate $600 - $800 Starting Bid $300
http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/18158/lot/263/ Estimate: £200 - 300
http://www.aspireauctions.com/auction300/details/35565.html Sold $891.25

Or am I not finding the right thing?

Either way its a very cool piece, nice find.

[edit] Hmm, this one is closer to that price.

Ryan the top looks to be a repro, heavy legs, very light color.
The others are also repros.
The last one is the closest. It is English.

US made only commands about a 1/4 of the price that English antiques bring.

I thoughtful it will bring anywhere in the price range. A friend came in and saw it and said that will go 2,800 to 3,000 all day long right now. I think the 7600 was before the bottom dropped out of the antique market.

The Christies Link said 1770 so I figured it was a similar time frame, the rest do appear to be a lot later. I see what you're saying about the legs, especially the bottom part below the stringers. Definitely interesting the variation in price depending on provenance and origin. I'd have no idea how to tell the difference
