    A project from Cherry

I traded a Diston D8 to a friend in exchange for some Cherry boards. I've never worked with Cherry, so I decided to build another small chest.

The first day was stock prep.

The second day was cutting dovetails, dry fitting and cutting grooves for the back and drawer slides.

No, the plywood is just to protect the cherry from the holdfasts. I mark out the sides of the groove and make the first cut on each side with a 1 1/4" chisel. Then I freehand between the lines with the router. I don't do a lot of measuring, the grooves are about 3/8" and the iron in the plane is 1/4", so I make a couple of passes at each depth.

After day three, the side drawer supports are installed, and the case is assembled.

I had many compliments ready to post about your work then I look at your first photo... and saw the door mat. OH NO! anyway -- you sure know what you are doing... hope you know I am teasing about the door mat... Paul
Remember the tea kettle - it is always up to its neck in hot water, yet it
    still sings!

Now that Christmas is over, I'm back in the shop. The case is done, now to build the drawers.
