There was another email exchange with some of the Simply Green folks on another forum, the upshot from them was:
"The recommended product for cleaning saw blades is Simple Green Pro HD which has no effect even during long soak times. Simple Green Pro HD can be purchased at Home Depot."

Apparently its a different and less caustic formulation that doesn't attack the carbide the same way (the chemistry is beyond my limited grokage).

Some more ways to clean blades from folks who know something about what they're doing:

And some good data on carbide wear patterns.

From this I deduce that even if you aren't breaking the braze with a long simply green soak you are more likely dulling the teeth more anyway which wouldn't be desirable.

Looks like I was late in reading the warning posts on the other thread. I just checked what "model" the Simple Green was and it looks as though it's the harmful variety. Oh well, I did use the last of the Simple Green and did get a bottle of Lestoil yesterday, so I'm now safe to do the other gummed-up blades & for the future.

The wife uses these to freshen up areas around the house.

Forgot to mention that I did pick up a jar of this Natural Magic Brushed Cotton Odor Absorbing Gel and am very pleased with the results. I use it whenever working in the shop, with or without fans, & regardless whether it's with wood or painting, it covers the the odors well. Even my wife likes it. Now, how good is that!

It comes in several fragrances if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the recommendation Brent!
