Well, I had a bit of time to get that plane that Steve Clardy so graciously threw into the box of bandsaw parts he sent me.

Here it is, ready to be fixed up.......

The plane was in really decent condition, and I was toying with the idea of a complete restore, a dip in the electrolysis tank, and paint, new knobs, even a new blade, but in the end, I just decided to rework it into a user, for now. I'm not saying that it won't get the full Monty at some point, but right now, I'm just too darn busy.

OK here is is, does not really look that different, but..........

Sure works well!!

Thanks again Steve, you are one heck of a nice guy!

Cheers!

FWIW, thats about all I ever do to mine. Flatten the sole, clean any crude of them if there is any, sharpen and use them. I like my old tools to look old.

Jeff
Who then turns around and restores his big machines to look newish.

I hear you, but this would look so nice, repainted, and with a nice Sakura knob on it and a Sakura handle, I still have a fair bit of it here, the same stuff I used on Kermit's knobs, I just think it would look VERY nice and with hand tools, at least to me, some of the pleasure in using them is how they fit the hand and the eye :thumb:

Cheers!

Yer welcome Stu.

I figured you would use it.

I didn't type it before it left on that Jet airplane.

Give me some detailed info on it and I'll type the date range it was made.

Its below a 13 for sure I think, just looking at the pics.
13 and below had no raised ring under the front knob.

Patents dates, stamping on blade, name on adjusting lever, etc.

I know it says "Bailey No. 4" on the nose, on the tail is says "Pat 1902" and March 25th 1902.

I can't remember what is stamped on the blade.

Cheers!

You can see the wood on the knobs on Kermit here............
