that is strictly up to you paul, but if you do put a hole in the back, i would make allowances for the dust to slant to your new outlet area.. without seeing your present slant , i would try a piece of card-board and play with it for the template to make the tin one..before cutting the hole just make sure you had room for the tin to go the other direction.. dont want it to interfer with your saws tilting or depth adjustments.
 
Mine's along the lines of Jim Bradley's. It's easy to make and works well, but it still leaves the blades exposed to moisture in the air....I'd guess a drawer type storage would be better, but more time consuming to make.
