Blanket Box.. the easy way

Wow that came out great! Really like the look and the proportions. Well done!!

A couple tips if I may..

Ash has some really wonky grain to it. I agree with Larry as to the blade. I use on my bs a 1-1/2 inch blade to do my resawing as it has almost zero flex. (I use an 18" Rikon) Depending on what your bs will handle that may be something worth checking out. I also strike a line and follow it freehand without the use of a fence. I only use a fence on smaller or thinner pieces such as 12/4 or less in thickness.

A pad sander and sanding to your final grit as you go along will save you a lot of time at the end. Especially with raised panels. Just watch out sanding around non assembled joints. I find its a real time saver at the end as I really only need to do touch up sandings then a final once over to ensure everything is smooth and ready for finish

rich,, i was referring to the tension on the bandmill,, not his bandsaw.. he was stating bad uniformity in the rough stock.. i have had a fair amout of lumber cut on a band mill and by two different sawyers, and they both had trouble with ash.. the last guy was much better sawyer and he still had trouble..

I bought 2" ash from him before ( a hobby WW with 10 acre bush near me) and it was all pretty straight cuts and he said the Dad of the family operated the band mill and he always did a good job. But his son did the 1" and to me looking at it sitting on my wood rack in the shop, I thought it looked like he was pushing a dull blade into the log. I should have looked the pile over a lot closer for 50 -75 cents more per bd ft I could have had quality cut / dried stock from the sawmill.

Today I made the strip for the floor to sit on and screwed it on. Then fastened the lid on so I could mount the soft close stay. I have to get a second stay, the lid is too heavy, drilled mounting holes for both sides. My left over cedar closet lining from a few years ago is all warped. I really don't want to purchase another box for 5 strips, so it will be a challenge to install it. I may have to straighten some pieces on the jointer and remill a tongue & groove.:huh:
