Hollow forms from the ages

Fascinating Garry… thanks! Among the striking things about those turnings is how familiar the forms are today, seven thousand years later.

Those technologies existed in the pre-dynastic era of Egypt? Oops… I think the top of my head just came off.

One stone that I saw in Egypt is much simpler than those turned hollow forms, but it is a stone I doubt I will ever forget. Granite, or equally hard, three or four foot square in section and maybe twenty foot long, it is set horizontally in the end of a wall. Rather than stopping at the end of the wall however, the stone is cut to turn the corner and run several feet into the adjacent wall. That the builders did not simply lap the stones in the corner like masons through the ages have done, but were able to invest the time to make that complex cut, amazes me.
