    Vacuum bag material thickness?

Aloha peoples. I am thinking of making a vacuum bag for some laminating I want to do. I will probably just use sheet polyethelene material, but don't want to go too thick or too thin. Your choices? It will probably be about 4' x 7' max.

    Mahalo to all.

Mine are 20 mil (0.020") thick vinyl.

Joe Woodworker sells both 20 and 30 mil material, in vinyl and PVC, and the proper glue for sealing it.

Marc Spagnuolo (The Wood Whisperer) did an episode a while back. I believe he did both types (vinyl and pvc) and covered some tips for each. He also used Joe Woodworker also.

I used some vinyl material from a fabric shop for many years. It is about 10mil and worked just fine, but last year I replaced it with 20mil vinyl from Joe.

Going way back to the point I first got a vacuum pump, we had an extra vinyl shower curtain laying around at home, so I tested with it. It worked quite well for some bentwood pieces I needed for a project. Dirt cheap, too!
