Which background shows off the subject best?

#1 - With the deer hide background

#2 - With the grey background

Subject is a Gun Metal Bolt Action with Caragana sanded to 400X, buffed with extra fine steel, 6 coats of MINWAX WBOM Polyurethane and polished with Hut Ultra Gloss.

Well the grey clearly offers the best contrast...

I think I might like the buckskin better if the pen was turned the same way as in the grey picture with only the dark wood showing. The lighter wood on the side is imho to close to the buckskin color and doesn't work as well. Having said that the gunmetal and copper against the buckskin looks pretty sharp to me.

Put them both on ebay in different ads, see which pulls the most.

Might want to try a modern military camo background for some of the current returning war guys.

I could see this being popular with them.

Technically the light background shows off the pen the best.

However, if I were skimming along through the web, the hide background is the one that would stop me to look.

I agree with Ryan; if the pen was in the same position in both pics, I would really prefer the hide.
