Making a Jig for Sharpening or Some Help Please??

I am trying to get my son started in wood turning. He lives a ways from me. He needs something like the Wolverine jig. I use the varigrind...the original version. Anyone got ideas on what to make that would get him started?

When I started, I made jigs out of wood that copied the wolverine setup. They worked fine. I got the ideas off of searching the internet. Here is one that gave me some ideas. http://www.aroundthewoods.com/sharp.shtml

This is assuming he has a grinder.
