High Chair Project

Finally got some time on these again, today I cut and fitted pieces for the chair backs. Have some minor clean-up to do with the shoulder plane.

Now that everything is fitted I'll be tearing down, shaping the seats, arms, and tops of the chair backs. Will also do round-overs on all the square edges and get ready for sanding/finishing.

Finally got everything fitted and ready to break down for final cuts. The front of the seats have two radius cut for the childs legs.

The radius was 15 1/4", which I didn't have a compass that big, so I improvised. Just a quick hole drilled large enough for a tight fit of the pencil and a pocket screw driven through for the center point, this did the trick.

Have some 1/8" round-overs to do tomorrow to most of the seat back parts and some 1/4" ones on the seats themselves, then will be ready for final sanding.

Sanding is finished and a sealer coat put on, sanded again and laying down lacquer on all the parts now.

Oh, and added the all important stamp, forgot I had this actually, just happened to come across it the other day.

I had to do a double take...I thought you made a Festool high chair. That tape is just about the right color:):thumb:

Would like to have some, but the tape is cheaper. ;)

Glad I used that tape, did glue-ups tonight and even dried glue comes right off the lacquer.

I'll do some final touch-ups with the lacquer now that they are assembled, then I'm planning to rub out the finish, sand to 600 grit, then burnish with #0000 steel wool and wax. I have some nylon straps and buckles on order. Need to attach the front foot rest yet and then cut out a template to route out the table recesses.

Loving the progress shots. That beauty is going to be a winner. Making something like this for family is a gift not many can give.

Thanks guys, still not done, worked on the foot rest today, didn't want to make them until the glue-up was done.

They started out having ears.

But after seeing the layout, I chopped them mostly flush.

Definitely looks better flushed up IMO, what are the attachment plans? Permanent or adjustable? Just curious on the height placement & can't recall the workings of those from yester-years...

Will be permanent, 8" from the seat to the top of the foot rest. I think the original was 7", but couldn't find that measurement when I last looked. I checked my MIL's chair, which she is borrowing, it was at 8"
