How can people do this

The story is so short it makes about as much sense as the protesters(?). Why would they protest such a thing? A little research shows they are pretty much a hate group disguised as a religious organization or some-such. A little context in the story might make it at least appear like journalism. And to think, parents thought they were seeing the decline of western civilization when I was a kid. Apparently we can still go lower :(.

...A little research shows they are pretty much a hate group disguised as a religious organization or some-such...

At their core, they are a family of lawyers and litigators who make a living from antagonizing others then suing them when their victims retaliate. (In essence, taunting you until you hit them, then filing assault charges against you.) The religious aspect is merely a front and a tax break. The chance of them actually showing up to protest are fairly slim, and if they do, the Patriot Guard will likely do a good job of keeping them out of view from the soldier's family.

Groups like the Phelps family (which makes up all of the leadership and most of the membership) thrive on the attention they get. The less media time they are given the better.

I don't know what to say without going into a nasty rant about these low life scum that feed upon others. Oops, can feel myself getting warmed up, better stop now.

Glad you brought this to our attention Bob to remind us what's out there.

I think when people take actions based on little information - the result is NOT good.

That goes for both sides.

I do NOT condone "hate" activism in any way shape or form.

I also think using the name of a church to hide intent is also a travesty to the church.

No matter what - this entire action is wrong.

Going there to blast those idiots is also wrong.

Going there - to ignore the idiots, but support the family is a good thing to do - stay away from the idiots.

Condemning people without a trial is just wrong - in this country.

Protest is an acceptable action. HOW the protest is done is the issue here.

Vaughn's synopsis of this group is accurate. They are an embarrassment to most Kansans. They thrive on confrontation. They have made the Topeka area miserable for years, but they know just how far they can push without crossing legal lines.

I am so mad you could fry eggs on my head. However, Leo is right. Let us not let the good guys drag the country down.
The Presbyterians have a saying, "Decently and in order." I think that is in order in this case---even though I am boiling and want to test those people's heads with a sledge hammer.

I am not enjoying. However, I still say, "Enjoy."

I am guessing they are on the payroll of the mainstream media.

They never seem to work, and for a supposed "Christian" group, they sure get a lot of non-negative media coverage.

Also, who ever heard of a churchfull of lawyers with one empty seat (sounds like the begining of some joke involving a cliff)--lol

I think they are just following the marching orders of some Hate filled media person(s), with more money than brains.

That Westboror Baptist Church group is fanatical beyond anything I can comprehend. They believe our servicemen getting killed is God's revenge for homosexuality existing in America. Go figger......
I have a friend who is a member of the Patriot Guard. He will ride hundreds of miles to help form a line keeping the protestors far enough away from the funeral so it can be a dignified send off. I long believed him to be a veteran but he isn't. He has a disability I didn't know about that kept him out of the service. But he does this.

OK, I'll reiterate:

They are a "church" in name only.

They exist for lawsuits. They are not religious. They don't believe any of the crap they espouse.

Their "congregation" consists of about 40 people, primarily the extended family of Fred Phelps, the late founder of the "church". A good number of them are lawyers.

Mainstream media has nothing to do with them. They are not fanatical about anything other than rubbing people the wrong way and looking for lawsuits.

Google is your friend.

We'll see what happens today. So far they were absent at during the calling hours Thursday and Friday. Burial is today.

The word that these people were coming was like the "shot heard around the world" Many patriotic and veteran groups plan on being there to protect the family. I've also heard that a large, rather unsavory motorcycle gang that has scared off these people before may be present.

For me, besides a few 4 letter words and a few special hand signals, I'll let Saint Peter send them in the other direction if they ever reach the pearly gates.

The motorcyclists are neither a "gang" or "unsavory". They are an organized group known as the Patriot Guard. Most, but not all, are veterans. I know several members and they are regular upstanding members of society. One of my best friends will ride hundreds of miles to participate.
With the blessings of the police the PGs will keep the protestors far enough away from a funeral so the deceased veteran can be laid away in dignity. The PG does wear black and may look to some to be "unsavory" but that is probably just part of the image to dissuade the protestors from trying to cross the line. If I had a motorcycle I would join them.

Frank. I am totally aware of the pride and honor of the patriot guards, blue knights and many other fine motorcycle organizations. If you read the news clip in my first post you would of seen that the Marines body was escorted from the airport to his hometown by the Patriot Guard.
I was referring to the Hells Angels. They have had a presence here in NH before and I know that they have scared off the Westboro scum before in other locations......
