    Shakin' all over!

These are my first salt shakers, made for my daugher and son-in-law. I realize I should have tapered the top a little more, but that's for the next attempt.

The wood is butternut, which I love to turn. Sanded to 320 grit, then finished with 5 coats of shellac.

Are glass shakers in them, or are they threaded for the lids?

They are glass inside. I'd be a little hinky about having the wood exposed directly to the S and P. And anyway, LV sells the parts, and it never occurred to me to make them any other way.

You heard about the tourist, in New York in the 50s, who stopped a beatnik busking on his guitar and asked, "How do you get to Carnegie Hall?"

The beatnik said, "Practise, man, practise!"
