Curent Relief Carving for Rainy days

Been working on this carving on rainy day here an taking my time with it. A friend of mine had let me make a copy of his drawing so I can carve it, so just try an figure out the best way to approach this one I started with a 8" x 10" 4/4 of Bass wood before I do the big one 24" x 24" 8/4 Bass wood so I will know what steps to do first as you can see in the drawing it got lots of dimension to it at different angles

The artist of this drawing is Edward Foster of Waddington, Lancashire UK an if you get on face book take a look at some of his painting he is a true Artist

There is a lot of "stuff" going on inthat drawing/carving.

Deer, winter trees, a ladies head, etc. Very interesting.

I could see a couple of those matching each other being framed as doors on a high end hall table, or the like.

I say this, because I have known so many ladies who love that 1920's silloute of a womans head, which is what the face reminds me of.



No doubt this will bring a good price when/if you sell it.

Looking good. Every carving I've done so far, which is about 4, the instructors just tell me "gotta take more off". It's hard to gauge the depth of all the different layers.

Well I took it down some more while trying to take care of wife , hoping to start adding the fine details shortly

I like how you've layered it to get a sense of depth. It looks way thicker than it is..
