Since today is my Friday (and since I'll be pretty busy tomorrow), I figured I'd start the Friday thread rolling a day early this week. I suspect that I'm not the only one here in the US squeezing an extra day out of the holiday weekend.
Tomorrow morning I'm loading up the SUV and driving about 4 hours north to Ignacio Colorado to perform at the Four Corners Motorcycle Rally. I'm playing with The Electric Edric Project, filling in for my friend Edric, who you may recall was badly hurt in a motorcycle accident about 6 weeks ago. He's doing much better - he's breathing on his own now, and this week they were actually able to take him outside for the first time since the accident.
This event is going to be a trial by fire for me, since we're potentially playing for over 1000 people, but I've only rehearsed with the band twice. (I've been practicing the songs by playing along with YouTube videos, but it's not the same as playing live with other musicians.) To add to the pressure, a lot of the songs we're doing have pretty prominent guitar parts, and if they are played wrong, the whole song falls apart. No pressure whatsoever, lol. The keyboardist in the band is one of my best friends, Steve. We first met when I stole his fiancee from him back in the 1970s. He and I played and toured together back in the '80s but this will be the first full shows we've played together in over 30 years. The singer is Marianna, who I've only known for a couple of years, but she and her husband have become great friends as well. Not only is she an awesome singer, she's gorgeous, has great stage presence, and is a truly sweet person. She doesn't have the "diva" syndrome that so many good singers - male or female - have. (She's also an awesome country singer, too.) The drummer (Billy) and the bassist (Rick) are also great guys. We're gonna have a blast. As a bonus, we're being provided rooms at a nearby resort/casino with a nice mix of amenities...in case we get tired of hanging around the bike rally.
Just for grins, here are the songs we're playing. Typical classic rock stuff with a few surprises...I suspect most of you will recognize at least a few of these:
Y'all have a fun, relaxing, and safe weekend, y'hear?
