I started on building a DP table yesterday. I ended up laminating three pieces of 1/2" baltic birch. I'll be banding the side and front edges with some maple, the fence is cut out of some 8/4 cherry scrap.

The rear has a radius around the post, the cut out on the right is to allow for the elevation handle's swing.

I still need to add the banding and cut out a recess/sacrificial plate. I cut out a 3" recess in the fence to allow extra clearance.

Another view around the post and the recess for the chuck.

One small issue though, will have to cut down the height of the fence or have an auxiliary shorter one to use in it's place, which should be easy enough to swap out. The chuck is about 2" from the table at this point, so removing some height on the fence should work fine.

I have three different fences, one low profile for just this issue. The problem exhibits itself so seldom that I would not modify you current fence for it. I normally use a 3" tall fence but, have a 2" tall and a 1/2" (yes, half inch) tall aluminum extrusion (the original Woodpecker fence) as well. Another benefit of the split fence is that you can have a tall side on the left and a low side on the right for clearance. I made a few different fence faces for dad to meet his needs.

Finished up the outer trim tonight.

I had to take the front one off as it occurred to me that I wouldn't have any way to clean-out the t-slots, so cut some slots in it.

Here's a better pic of the fence opening. going to put a reinforcing piece of aluminum under the fence

I have 4 hanger bolts in the bottom, it's bolted to the DP's fence.

Still need to cut in a hole for a sacrificial plate, will also seal the whole thing.
