I made a table a few weeks ago for a friend from a door that was her great-grandmothers. I had to shorten the door and had a piece of the stile left over so I made her this little keepsake box. The top is the piece of wood left over. I think it's fir, but I'm not positive. It has some really tight grain and was really easy to work. The bottom is some oak I had laying around and the splines are walnut.

A great addition with a story to boot. Straight grained fir will look familiar if you've looked at the finished projects in a Woodsmith Magazine article. They use a ton of it. It is available around here as a veneered plywood product and a bit south of me as lumber.
