After turning the handles for the files, I figure I would give it a shot. The finial was the last piece of scrap from the handle project.

Definitely need more practice before trying another one. But you have to start somewhere.

The good thing is it was all kiln dryed Mahogany.

About 6-1/2" diameter. The base came from a 12/4 piece of mahogany. The finial is about 3" height. The tip is about 3/16" high and 1/16" diameter.

Oh, finish is brushed on Shellac.

Thanks, Rob. The neighbor came over today to let me know they will be taking down a large sweetgum next month. If it has lots of heartwood, do you want some turning chunks?

Thanks all for the encouragement.

The inspiration was after watching a video on a water droplet hitting the water and creating a ripple effect. The finial is the bounce back out of the water.
