    Miter saw stop

I saw this over on the openbuilds.com site. Pretty cool design, it looks like about $60 or so in parts to do one that is 1500mm (59" or so) long.

    Here's the build:

Could even take it a step further if you're a geek like me and put a drive belt and motor on it to have it automatically set the length using an arduino.

Pretty cool for those that have the room to give up for one. I imagine you could integrate this idea into something that fastened securely but, temporarily to the bench. the concept looks like it could be ported to other tools as well. I was unaware of the site and there are some cool things going on there. We humans are a clever lot ;-)

How well does this work with no other back stop than what is on the saw?

Neat and fancy. I just use a hunk of old 2x4 and clamp. Cost zip.

Me too..... My miter saw is on a roll around cabinet that has no space for much of a stop set up... rarely cut any thing of length anyway.

When you start looking at this stuff, lots of neat gadgets come to mind. I spent a lot of time on the openbuilds site when I was making my router sled. It's very cool stuff, although it would be better if they kept the parts store stocked. I ended up using other extrusions because the parts I needed were always 'out of stock'.

That gives me some ideas about using the leftovers from my CNC build.

Good point, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to add that and lip at the same level/plane as the miter's table to keep pieces from sagging.

I know I've seen Tom Silva use a motorized system on TOH where he types in the length and it automatically adjusts, could do something similar using their pulley brackets with an arduino...
