A Tilt Top Tea Table...

Ryan, what do you mean by "edge treatment"? This type of table top would typically be turned to get the low flat area in the center and then the edge would be carved by hand. In most cases the edge would get far more detailing than I put in. Since this is for a tutorial and I didn't want this one tutorial to be an hour long, I simplified the carving on the edge. Take a look at this for some reference.

Y'know I hadn't even considered that the top would be carved from one piece and just assumed that the rim was applied molding... Hmm... hmm hmm hmmm!

After some reading I might suggest that perhaps the mortise for the pedestal into the top assembly should perhaps be square instead of round?

I expect there are examples where that would be an applied molding but traditionally it would be carved from the edge. Sometimes the tops would be elliptical instead of round.
