squaring a large timber ?

The electric would be just fine, most of the stuff they make here is 50/60 cycle rated as half the country is 50 and half is 60. It is all 100 volt, but that much difference on a universal motor makes no difference at all.
 
We put some 10x10 timbers in our house during the remodel. I just marked on 3 sides with a speed square where the cut was to be, fired up the chainsaw with a good sharp chain and cut them.
 
I've missed the 16" Makita via CL a couple times before. I think it is the same one, that has been going around but the cheapest I saw it was $30.
I do have a couple Bigfoot saws (only 10" blades), but one of them is setup for use with my track.
