casting pens question

allen, as to your finishing, what grit is your final when sanding? i usually start with 100, then work up to 2000, then on to the micromesh, from 2400 through 12000. once you get past the 2000 grit (600-2000 grit available at your better car parts stores), it is just 2 or 3 light passes with the micromesh, as this will be polishing steps. hope this helps.

final sanding on wood? I don't use micromesh on bare wood, but use them after either a few coats of poly or 6-7 coats of CA glue.
with the accelerator spray for ca glue, I use micromesh after applying the final coat. Just to give it a smoother feel. really doesn't need it, but I do it anyway.
Acrylics I use the micromesh up through the last grit, (12000?)
