V-Inlays in VCarve

I believe thats the technique that Jason used to inlay Eric Claptons Signature in the headstock of his guitar.
 
Yep, i have. It works awesomely (when you remember to reverse your inlaid part!).

The process as described in the tutorials works great. The weird mathy stuff they do is to ensure that the inlaid piece doesn't bottom out in the V carving - this will ensure snug contact all around the top surface. It definitely helps to practice on some scrap since machine tolerances do have a bit of an impact here. It's a cool feeling when the mating piece just seats perfectly into position.

I regret not taking more pics of this process - i tried to describe it to a local woodworking guild last tuesday and it was tricky without more photos. Lesson learned!
 
I've looked at the process, but haven't tried it. I have a sizable stock of veneers and will do some inlay with it soon - cut a pocket of some shape, then do an outside cut of a contrasting veneer.
