This is red ironbark eucalyptus, about 3 3/4" tall and 4 3/4" wide. Yet another piece from a tree removed from my office, this has been a fun bunch of wood to turn, as every piece seems to have something pretty to show in the grain. Sanded to 600 grit, given several coats of Formby's Tung Oil Finish (dust nubbies removed with with a gray Scotch Brite pad in between coats), buffed with tripoli and white diamond compounds, then hand-buffed with Renaissance Wax. The pictures don't really show the subtle chatoyance in the red and yellow tones. The large chunk of sapwood is pretty boring on its own, but I think it provides a nice contrast that helps show off the form.
Finger-pointing and snickering encouraged.
