    How to cut the half circe shape?

    How do you folks cut these half circle shapes for the bolt to slide in?

    Why do you need to cut the shape.

    You can make a round (forstner bit) of square (chisel) pocket.

    The cover plate will hide the hole.

    And if you really need the hole to be that shape, hold the plate where it is to be installed and trace around the opening. Then drill out the largest hole the pattern allows to the proper depth. Then using curved carving chisels and straight chisels and dig out the excess. Hand tool work is good for the soul, teaches how important sharp tools are and leaves you with an extraordinary sense of accomplishment.
