well, not exactly a start (table top planing took up all the time), but the boards for the cutting boards have been brought to the shop.

got a bit more done today. redone one of my sleds for this project. did the first cuts on the maple and cherry parts, and planed the walnut. now that the walnut is planed, i can set the width of the cuts for the maple and cherry parts. planed the cherry stock as well (both cherry and walnut were rough cut). with all of that done, now its back to work.

got a bit more done today. finished planing the cherry, then edge jointed the cherry and walnut blanks. i wound up with enough walnut for 10 boards. then i started cutting the cherry parts, and then the maple. i laid one out to see how the gluing setup would look like. once i lifted the box of parts, i figured that it would be easier to bring the glue and clamps over to the shop. seems that i have enough leftovers that i may be able to make a whole batch of end grain coasters too.

back to the cutting boards today too! got them all scraped and ready for the planer. they all planed flat rather nicely, except for the last pass on the last one, the planer decided to take a bite out of it (see other new thread for the save). now that they are planed flat, tomorrow i will be cutting them into strips, and the final glue up.

Go Dan go.......I am already thinking of the selling side.

Heres what i am thinking.......add some trimming and dont display more than one at a time.
You get more value using law of scarcity.
Given they all the same keep in mind if customers see them all you reduce it from custom to commodity and then its downhill from there in your added value.

once i was able to get moving again, i decided to upgrade my sled with a toggle hold down. that way i don't have to worry about how to hold the slices.

got to test this out today (something good after the fun with the cnc). the hold down works darned good, keeping things in place (especially fingers). got all 15 slices, laid them out, then compared them to the saved board. the good boards will be 12.5" x 13.5" then pop wanted to get in the pictures, and i got him with his silly (you know what-ed) smile.
