Tom's 31 note organ build

I got the wood glued to the metal wheels. I used Gorilla glue for this. I had never used it before and at first I did not like it at all but once I learned how the glue would react I learned how to use it better. I knew and wanted it to expand and fill voids but I certainly did not expect it to expand like it did. It dried pretty hard and I had to figure out a way to sand it down. I reached for a rasp file and that was the tool for the job. I've owned this rasp file for at least 30 years and never used it until now but this was just the right job for it. I had to do a lot of sanding to shape the wood as each piece was not a perfect fit. I also wanted some shaped hubcaps for the outside of the wheels so I turned these on my lathe. Next I decided that the center of the wheels might need to be beefed up a bit so I cut some small wedges and glued them between the spokes. This should make it a bit stronger. I'm getting pretty close to putting the tires on.

I got a tire mounted to the rim today and am very pleased with the overall look. I'm happy with the way these turned out. Now that I have a finished wheel I can take some measurements from ground level and start to build the rest of the cart.

I’ve been continuing to work on my cart. After building a basic frame I covered it with plywood. It has one drawer and will have twin doors below that will allow access to storage below.

Tom, The wheel and cart are really looking good. I have a couple of questions, Is your organ configured as shown on page 25 of the Topsy 3 instruction book, "Optional 31 Note Scale"?

It's been a long time coming but finally....have my cart done. I think the wheels I made are going to work out well as they feel pretty sturdy. The organ sits on it at just the right height and overall I'm happy with the way it all turned out. I'm planning on taking the organ out to Pennsylvania in June to my first COAA (Carousel Organ Association of America) rally. I'm told it is one of the biggest organ rally's in the country so I'm looking forward to it.
Glad to have this project wrapped up and looking forward to starting something new.
Pretty bad photos taken inside. I'll have to get it outside and do better.
