I got the wood glued to the metal wheels. I used Gorilla glue for this. I had never used it before and at first I did not like it at all but once I learned how the glue would react I learned how to use it better. I knew and wanted it to expand and fill voids but I certainly did not expect it to expand like it did. It dried pretty hard and I had to figure out a way to sand it down. I reached for a rasp file and that was the tool for the job. I've owned this rasp file for at least 30 years and never used it until now but this was just the right job for it. I had to do a lot of sanding to shape the wood as each piece was not a perfect fit. I also wanted some shaped hubcaps for the outside of the wheels so I turned these on my lathe. Next I decided that the center of the wheels might need to be beefed up a bit so I cut some small wedges and glued them between the spokes. This should make it a bit stronger. I'm getting pretty close to putting the tires on.
